"Under My Skin" and "Walking in the Shade" by Doris Lessing

These are the two parts of her autobiography, but there's a lot learn in them about history, politics, psychology, sexuality and gender relations just due to the interesting life she had and the intelligent observations she made along the way. She was born in Persia, moved to Southern Rhodesia (today called Zimbabwe), started a family there with a German communist during WW2, visited the Soviet Union but later became a vocal opponent against them, wrote "The Golden Notebook" and to her surprise became seen as a feminist icon, wrote books entirely about cats and became seen as perhaps a little crazy...

For the hedonists among us, if you've dabbled and would like to see what Peak Hedonism looks like, Keith Richards' 'Life' autobiography is pretty fun. Gives great insight into why he looks ~6k years old, too, much like William Burroughs, and for many of the same reasons.

Bring on the Empty Horses - David Niven. Beautiful man, a walking anecode machine...and it opens a window into the classic Hollywood era.
