I realized that I assumed a lot about him. Knowing someone from childhood and from the same in-group with good values provides the necessary and valuable information to make the decision if someone will make a good long-term partner. But that's not how our society is set up anymore. A great deal more emphasis is placed on career rather than marriage and family now beginning in the 1960's.
