Not to mention that the acceptable minimum middle class standard for raising a human kitten has gone up astronomically, in terms of time and financial resources.
Not so long ago, you fed the kid, put a roof over his head, and didn't beat him so bad that he never got to be a big kid, you were doing a pretty good job.
